2009 Business Cup Winners

The Phillip Island Golf Club hosted the annual Stockdale and Leggo Phillip Island Business Cup on Friday 29th May. This was the third staging of the event with all reports indicating that this day will be a successful event for many years to come.

The capacity field from Phillip Island and South Gippsland enjoyed the atmosphere and facilities of the golf club. The winning team for the day with a score of 54.25 nett was Clarke's Gas Service's consisting of members Jacob Clarke, Marcus Clarke, Ben Clarke and Scott Fullarton. Playing off a handicap of 6.75 the team scorched around Phillip Island in 61. The score was comprised of 9 birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole. Finishing in second place was the team from Angles Health Food and in third place Taylor's Waterfront Restaurant.

The aim of the day was to expose businesses to new clients and to other businesses on Phillip Island and San Remo, thus building relationships with new and existing clients, whilst enjoying the company of staff members and close friends.

The next Stockdale & Leggo Phillip Island Business Cup will be staged in early October 2009, with a maximum of 30 teams being eligible to compete for the cup.

The efforts of Marcus Liberman and his staff must be commended, with their fantastic organisation and dedication making the day an absolute success. The winners of the day also commended the course staff for the presentation of the course.

Shearwater On The Island 2008 Pro-Am

Sunday 23rd of November 2008 saw the successful participation of many members and visitors alike in the Shearwater On The Island Pro-Am staged at the picturesque Phillip Island Golf Club. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by 50 Golf Professionals and 150 amateurs.

This years' Pro-Am was a huge success for the Phillip Island Golf Club. Marcus Liberman, Tournament Organiser would like to thank all club members, visitors from other clubs and Professional Golfers that participated on the day, and to all the sponsors that made this day a huge success for the club. To stage an event of this calibre is great for the promotion of the Phillip Island Golf Club and Phillip Island.

Shane Baxter shot 69, which was a great score considering the windy conditions. Other leading professional scores were Ryan Haywood, Michael McGrath, David Stein and Sean Crowe on 70.

Shearwater On The Island 2008 Pro-Am

Pro-Am winner, Shane Baxter praised the efforts of Steve Loiacono (Superintendent) and his staff on the condition of the course during his acceptance speech, saying, "this is the best condition course that we have played in this year's Pro-Am circuit to date. The course is getting better each year. We enjoy coming here and playing and we all look forward to coming back next year'.

Once again, sponsorship for the Pro Am was overwhelming and greatly appreciated by the Phillip Island Golf Club. The new naming rights sponsor for the Pro Am was Shearwater On The Island. The lady amateur winners where Marilyn Jamieson 37 points, and in second place Rosemary Bailey with 33 points.

The men's amateur winner was Paul Russo with 35 points on a count back, and in second place was Ben Clarke with 35 points on a count back.

The future goal for the Phillip Island Golf Club is to stage a divisional event, which requires a minimum prize purse of $25,0000. Next year's Pro-Am will lead the Professional players into the main Australasian PGA Tour, which includes the Australian Masters, New Zealand Open, PGA Championship and Australian Open. This will make for some of the finest Professional Golfers ever to play on the Island.
